Welcome to BC Discoveries!

Thank you so much for dropping by. Here’s a welcome postcard for you:

Me in a traditional Indonesian dress

Me in a traditional Indonesian dress

Do you like the dress? I’m one of those people that like to try out the traditional outfits of the places I visit. One of my favorite places on earth is Bali, Indonesia. Thus the pic above. But don’t worry, I’m not dressed up like that most days 🙂

What’s In It for You

Why another travel blog?

In 2011 my husband and I decided to visit Vietnam. We wanted to see a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and after some research Halong Bay near Hanoi became our desired destination. It was difficult to select which cruise to join–there were a myriad of choices! But by reading the blog entries of travelers who so generously (and honestly) wrote about their experiences, we were able to narrow our choices. In the end, we hand a grand time!

This was when I realized how helpful travel blogs are in putting together an itinerary. When not part of a group tour, you’ll have to make your own choices. There are plenty of review/rating sites out there, but sometimes the validity and authenticity of the entries are questionable. Blogs are different—it is easy to see which ones put a lot of time, effort, and heart into their articles. It’s difficult to fake it with a true travel blog. Even sponsored articles are easy to spot.

So this site is my contribution to the travel blogosphere–where real travelers write about the good, the bad, and the ugly. I like to keep things positive, so you’ll find mostly positive stuff. The bad ones I prefer not to give the time of day.

I’m slowly building up an archive of articles, reviews, commentary, and relevant photographs. I hope they will be of use to you, just like the other blogs out there have been a source of information to me.

Who Am I?

My name is Beverly Claire and like you I love to travel!

Visiting museums and art exhibits, reading, painting/drawing, photography and 3D visualization are some of my favorite things.

Aside from English and Filipino, I am also fluent in Japanese, and have a Level 1 certificate in Japanese Language Proficiency (日本語能力試験1級).

I graduated from Nagoya University in central Japan, and have worked in Tokyo in the IT industry for nearly a decade as a systems integrator. I’ve been studying and working in Japan since 1997.

My husband Nori and I live in Yokohama, a port city that’s half an hour away from Tokyo by train.

It is a joy to experience different cultures and meet new people. I hope that by sharing my experiences you can enjoy them, too (either vicariously, or in the future if you’re planning a visit!).

I hope you enjoy your stay. Drop me a line when you can. Or better yet, comment on an article! 😉
